Only For The Smart. #2

Once upon a time there was an old man who owned and managed a huge ranch in Texas. He was sick and about to die. He had two sons who were equally good and pious. He was undecided as to whom he should impart the management of the ranch after he dies. So he decided he'd pull a little trick.

He called upon his sons one day and gave them two horses. The ranch was nearby Austin. He told them that the son whose horse will be slower to reach Galveston will get the title. They lingered around for many days not knowing what to do. And then one day they both came to this wise man in a nearby parish. After less than 15 minutes they both came out storming from the wise man's shack and they started racing as fast as they could toward Galveston.

What did the wise man tell them?

Hint: to get a feeling of the solution, you will have to read this riddle with the Texan drawl over and over again, Okay?

They can race riding their horses backwards, or sort of.
Anyway, this story of cowboy, might shed a light on those cowboys.

Sorry anonymous, you are wrong!

Thanks for the reference to the story though, no wonder his performance in the last eight years wasn't that great, he was probably riding the back of the horse backward!

Perhaps he told them to exchange horses?

Had to google that one, couldnt figure it out. Wont ruin it for everyone else, though. Have to say, the answer as our Egyptian friends would say, "bikhor maya". :))

DJ

I haven't posted or even read any blog for the past 10 days. Then, I get a chance to take a peak at what's going on and I find this!
Give me a break please

Anon, spot on!

CG, you're right, have you heard it before?
I hope your ankles aren't hurting anymore ;)

Lujayn, I did my best to camouflage the riddle. In the original one, the horses are camels and the ranch owner is an Arab shiekh. I wonder how you could google it with all these variables. Somebody else might have done it before….?

Weird...

LOL KJ, or rather they should reach Galveston (coastal city) and start swimming toward Mexico!

Hala Abu Fares al ward, yazalme wallah you are being missed here….kiss ekhet al sheghel…

my ankles? huh?

DUBAI JAZZ said...

Ohh, I am sorry CG, I thought it was you who had left this comment a while ago, turns out it was Jin...a lapse of memory on my part...I apologize...

CG said...

Ahhh, ok, now I see.

So how are your ankles doing now?

I actually thought that you meant 'hips' instead of ankles, as most of the bloggers here are aware that I have a bad hip that is prone to Bursitis.....so next time you see a limping lady trying to heave herself back into her truck, you will realise that you have finally seen ChevyGirl.

My ankles are good now CG, thank you for asking.

Sorry to hear about the troubles with your hips. Were you used to play squash or a similar physical sport? I knew a person who had been playing squash for 25 years and had to replace the cartilages of his hips recently. But hey, I am not trying to scare you, you'll be fine inshallah, Chevygirl!

I looked for the keywords: who gets there slower riddle. I know you changed the characters and places, but the storyline should be the same :))

Love the new look!!
I see you missed me.
What is this about cowboys and horses? Whats next Brokeback?

DJ, seems I missed this!

Damn, but btw, your new layout is really nice on the eyes.

I didn't get CG's answer (coz i'm a bit thick on Fridays, and most days) so I googled it.. and I really like the logic of the solution :-)

The wise man was wise indeed!

Man, I need to be quicker to respond to these quizzes.

I will find a quiz myself and blog it soon, muhahahah, maybe in the old format of using pictures :-)
